Google just can’t seem to get enough of your Ad money. Their Adwords platform raked in around $80 Billion dollars in 2016. But Google is at it again. In early 2015 they rolled out a Beta version of Google Home Services. They have since re-branded it as “Local Services By Google”.
Now “Local Services by Google” is a little different than Adwords. First Google will need to acquire some information about you and your company before you can even be considered. Lets say your a Plumbing Company in Annapolis Maryland and you have 10 mechanics in the field. Google will require you to have background checks done through Pinkerton systems on each employee that enters a persons home or place of business. They will also require you to upload all business licenses and insurance information. This in and of itself is a good thing, only because there are many contractors out there that have neither a licence or insurance.
Now let’s talk about placement and cost. On a desktop or laptop there will be three companies straight across the top and in mobile phones they will be stacked on top of each other. And as of now, there is no limit on the number of service companies google allows for these special placements. You pay based on a call rather than a click to your website. Google will supply the phone number for tracking purpose. Now for the price! you will pay $26 per call with a minimum of $400 a month for this new service.
Now here’s the interesting part, Google is doing this because they believe this will weed out the bad contractors and also contractors that are not really from that area.. This is what they told me first hand. Well Google, I have news for you. Some of those plumbing companies in those “special” Ad placements are not from that area. So as of now, I don’t believe this to be a good move for local plumbers or any service company for that matter, not when you could do an Adwords campaign and get $8-$12 clicks all day long.
